Start your day at Indulge Coffee and Sandwich Co. for some necessary caffeine and sustenance. They offer a variety of coffee and espresso beverages, including craft nitro cold brew. For food, we recommend the turkey and bacon sandwich known as a “taste explosion” and named after an AC/DC song, or keep it simple and order The Navigator, which is their chicken salad sandwich.
If the goal is to look your best during your day out, consider booking an appointment with your buddies at Modern Barber & Shave for all your grooming services, from haircuts with a master barber to a straight razor shave. The shop strives to provide classic services with a vintage flair, but for modern men in the modern age. Now that you’re looking fresh to death, it’s time to take on the rest of the day!
For the golf guys, head to the Pequot Golf Club, which is open to the public and has an 18-hole layout with shots for all skill levels, and tee-times and fees to match everyone’s schedule and budget.
If you want to engage in some water sports, the Stonington Marina rents kayaks and paddleboards in 2-hour, 4-hour, and full-day installments so you can explore nature while you get a bit of a workout.
There’s also plenty of opportunities to fish (striped bass and bluefish abound in the proper season) in Stonington Harbor. You can venture out with a fishing charter, or dock your own boat at a smaller place like Don’s Dock, which also offers a tackle shop, fish-cleaning station, clamming permits, and fishing and boating supplies.
Whatever activities you embark on, be sure to stop by Cottrell Brewing Co. beforehand to pick up some curbside cans to enjoy now or later. Normally we’d recommend asking for a brewery tour, but in the middle of a pandemic, we’ll just have to make do with some (responsibly) boozy outdoor fun. Are you an ale guy or an IPA guy? Cottrell has you covered either way.
Whenever you’re done with the day’s outdoor fun, head back indoors and enjoy some of the finest cuisines that Stonington has to offer at Breakwater in Stonington Harbor. A waterfront and boat-accessible restaurant featuring seafood, specialty cocktails, and stunning views in every season. Enjoy some pan-seared scallops, a grilled seafood medley, or a lobster roll as you reflect on your shared adventures.
There are lots of ways to end your day out on the town (or on the water) but we recommend finishing strong at our favorite slightly divey Irish sports bar – C.C. O’Brien’s Sports Cafe. When restrictions lift, they’ll be back to offering trivia and live music, but in the meantime, you can chow down on some wings and apps (the C.C.’s Snacker is their sampler combo if you don’t want to choose!), enjoy some beer, and play some pool with the boys to unwind before parting ways.
